There is no question of losing the boss fight over QTE. However, this does not mean that the game is easy at a normal level. Side quests and challenges are sometimes so difficult that we naturally put them off to improve skills and heroes later.

Development is important because, despite the experience gained, Kratos does not gain new levels, but only learns to attack. Only by improving them and equipping them with more durable armor, strengthening the handle of the ax and installing auxiliary runes increases the so-called level of power, which determines the effectiveness and efficiency of the hero in a given battle. Protective runes should be selected in accordance with opponents, so you need to constantly manipulate your weapon. So it’s partly inspired by RPGs, but it doesn’t take away the joy of using new combos, attacks, dodging, and all the other maneuvers. It’s still a puzzle adventure in God of War.

The puzzles mentioned are kept at a good level. From the very beginning, they do not spoil the player with hints, leaving a lot of room for thought and adaptation to new conditions and skills. The variety was also a pleasant surprise. Sometimes we are talking about throwing axes in several places, and in other cases we rush over time to move several plates and platforms and not fall prey to a sophisticated trap.

The pace of the game in God of War is amazing. From the first minutes we feel the right tension. The story is broken down into emotional scenes, Kratos’ rough relationship with his son, and sudden confrontations. The battle is not only fun, but also shows how the heroes find a common language by learning to cooperate. It’s not as close as The Last of Us, but you can see Kratos meticulously praising his son’s accomplishments over time, with Atreus learning from his lesson.

The further development of the story of God of War changes the pace, but always in such a way as to evoke new emotions and encourage learning about the next events. Side missions, while fairly repetitive, always lead to a different location. It is also an opportunity to talk about the culture of Midgard and parallel worlds. With such quests in the game, you can easily dive for twenty hours – and still want more. It is also important that, despite the big world, we are not overloaded with modes of activity and, naturally, strive to study history. The pace is great, but the gameplay is not limited to linear corridors.

The open world of God of War, which we sometimes navigate with a boat, hides many places and secrets. We only open them as the plot progresses. Through this, the game encourages people to return to famous regions, but also offers additional attractions. Thanks to the items found, Kratos and Atreus gain access to lands that play the role of additional tests. One of these places is Muspelheim, where we undergo the tests of Surtur, that is, we fight in the arena with waves of enemies. This allows you to give the right dose of adrenaline to people who, during the main adventure, did not feel sufficiently overwhelmed by enemy attacks.

Keeping the right balance between action and storytelling is beneficial to the Spartan thug. The slowly unfolding relationship with her son reveals not only a few faces of the unrepentant warrior, but also repeatedly reveals the difficulties of parenting when you have an uninteresting story that you really want to hide from your offspring. Kratos has matured, he is ashamed of his past and wants to be just a man, father and husband, fulfilling the last request of his deceased lover.

The complexity of the journey is also enhanced by a beautiful soundtrack that creates the right tension and atmosphere of Nordic legends, while retaining accents and aromas reminiscent of the hero’s past. Music is often not only a complement, but also the most important element: in one scene, when there is not so much on the screen, how much, the melody creates the whole seriousness of the situation.

God of War is the result of a consistent evolution – a completely new story in a previously unknown world combined with a new gameplay formula for the loop. Nevertheless, we are leading the same aggressive Kratos, but this time with a more interesting hero. The last installment in the series has benefited from this makeover and offers an undeniably great experience in every aspect.
