DroidCam for Windows

DroidCam is a cross-platform software tool that semi-automatically turns mobile equipment into Web and IP cameras for video surveillance, chatting in instant messengers and organizing broadcasts on social networks.

The developers do not offer to understand the settings – you just need to prepare the software. Namely: download the basic version of DroidCam first on a mobile OS (Android or iOS), and then on a computer. Then you just have to choose the connection method (via Wi-Fi or USB) and wait for the results. In less than a minute, the image will appear on the screen, and even in perfect format – without dropping frames, dropping FPS or strange bitrate.

Versions and Access

The DroidCam tool is distributed according to the Freemium model: the basic functionality is available without prior registration and in an unlimited format (we are talking about connecting to mobile equipment via USB or Wi-Fi, displaying an image and protecting confidential information). Additional opportunities open up after paying for the Premium version (one-time purchase): the content will start streaming in HD quality, sliders for adjusting the video (contrast, brightness, volume) and image rotation will appear, and at the same time the ads at the bottom of the interface will disappear.

The DroidCam tool is launched on computers with Windows and Linux operating systems: MacOS support has not yet appeared, but the developers are still considering expanding the list of available platforms.

Interface and content

The design of DroidCam is extremely schematic: on the top there are buttons with a choice of connection type, in the center – information with basic settings (IP-address for connection, output method – with image and sound), below – a quick access panel with Premium-functions and special content a menu containing settings and a “Help” section. It’s easy to figure out the details, and pop-up tips are provided.

From a functional point of view, questions also rarely arise: DroidCam has those features that are added to the premium version, no less obvious than the interface: buttons for changing the camera angle, adjusting the brightness, rotating the screen, preparing screenshots.

The situation with technical support is much more complicated. For unknown reasons, crashes and errors are much more common than we would like. The picture disappears, the camera is unable to focus, then the sound starts to lag behind. After restarting DroidCam, all problems disappear, but after 5-10 minutes the situation repeats again. Some updates have partially fixed the situation, but the problems are still not completely ruled out, and therefore the innovations still have to wait.
