Description

SUPERHOT is a game in which everything moves only when the player moves. Where it is more difficult not to perform an impeccable sequence of movements, but to stop in time in order to weigh and assess the situation. A game in which opponents are scattered by the touch of a bottle.

SUPERHOT Review

If it seems to someone that the name of the game is a little strange and abstract, do not worry. Everything is abstract and absurd here, from the “plot” to the gameplay.

The SUPERHOT game does not have any strong storyline, and, in fact, the language does not turn to say that it has at least some slightest thoughtful plot. The gameplay is divided into levels, and each level is a small combat scene, akin to some action movie or Hollywood action game. The player finds himself in extremely unpleasant situations where someone or something (for example, a car rushing at the player) tries to inflict injuries on the player’s ward that are incompatible with life.

However, judging by the missions that follow each other, it seems that somewhere in the background, strongly abstracting from the gameplay, and, as if afraid to betray their presence, there are faint hints of the plot. We can say that SUPERHOT gives the player freedom of thought. Who could see the storyline in the game, well, that fellow and gave a little understanding of what is happening. Who, in turn, did not succeed – well, the game won’t get any worse from that.

Hurricane gameplay

The main advantage of SUPERHOT is its constant dynamics, which can slow down overnight and give the player time to develop tactics and analyze the situation. This, on the one hand, hurricane, and on the other hand, tactical gameplay is facilitated by the ability of the protagonist, about whom, by the way, the game will not say a word either. The essence of this innovative game mechanic is interpreted as follows: when the player stands still, the world around him freezes.

Bullets stop in the air, enemies, as if frozen, remain in running, jumping or falling poses, patiently waiting for the player’s actions. When the player starts to move, everything returns to normal. The bullet, stuck in space a few seconds ago, continues to fly at its usual speed, and the opponents, as if nothing had happened, continue their attack on the player. Thus, the authors of the game were able to create a large number of interesting situations and dynamic game scenes, each of which is somehow connected with violence.

For example, if a bullet flies at the player, then it is enough just to stop, pick up a katana, and cut it in the air. The most artsy samurai would definitely bow their heads to such skill. The ability to slow down time in SUPERHOT allows the player to stop the course of events if he feels that the rhythm of the game has increased too much and needs to be slowed down, and then thinks over his further actions, and then executes them. From the very beginning, moving and “using” your superpower is a bit unusual, but after a couple of levels you get used to it and move no worse than an acrobat.

Minimalism

The SUPERHOT game is executed quite stylishly, although it has original solutions. For example, faceless enemies and a not very well-developed environment, entirely consisting of well-distinguishable polygons. However, such an atmosphere in no way annoys, but looks very stylish, and more, in fact, is not required – each level is passed very quickly and dynamically, so much so that you do not have time to look at the surroundings, while you crush the skulls of enemies and look at their fragments. So the developers of SUPERHOT turned the lack of detail into a feature of the game – the low-poly style hasn’t hurt anyone yet.

Superhot does not have a very long duration, but this is more than compensated for by the high dynamics of the game, interesting gameplay and a broken fourth wall, which the developers did not seem to even notice when creating the game.
