A certain man from the future appeared who shot Will at the very beginning of the experiment. He was followed in 1999 by Beth Wilder. She informs Will about the main events of the future, and also emphasizes the fact that there is a danger of a temporary Rift. This can lead to a complete stop of time in the entire universe. Caution forces Will to move his laboratory and start constructing the Counterweight, which will activate during the Breach and will deactivate the anomaly.

That same stranger who came from the future turns out to be a smart enough man named Paul Cyrin. Knowing all the events, he easily gets rich and creates the “Monarch” corporation to provide opposition to the Rift. He creates the “Ark” – a set of measures, with the help of which, at the Breach, in some places, it will be possible to maintain the subjective flow of time. This will give scientists more time to solve the problem. It is estimated that the Rift will occur in 2021, but a temporary anomaly begins in 2011 at the site of Will’s former laboratory. This provokes “freezing”. In some areas, absolutely all processes can freeze in time.

In 2016, Paul buys Riverport University to host a personal prototype of a time machine. He invites Jack Joyce to an experiment, which also ends in failure – Paul disappears in the future, but instead an alternative Paul appears, with the ability to chrono vision, and Jack himself gets supernatural powers. From that moment on, his life will be completely devoted to the destruction of the Rift, since “hovering” over him no longer has power.

In Quantum Break, the plot is quite interactive and is divided into two parts – the game and the series. In the series, the player can observe the work of the “Monarch” corporation, which will allow a better understanding of the motivation of the “bad guys” who are also trying to save the world, but in a different way. Jack is also not perfect in his actions, as he often sows a huge amount of death and destruction on his way.
