Project Winter is a multiplayer survival sim with Mafia-style rules, social interaction and the dark atmosphere of the far north. Developers transferred the events to the recent past: the style resembles Hollywood blockbusters from the 80s, multiplied by the atmosphere of Stephen King’s novels.

But the scenery is far less impressive than the intricate gameplay that includes a wide variety of mechanics. Virtual heroes will have to extract resources, bask by the fire, fight wolves and get meat from wild animals. Seemingly familiar tasks for those who are faced with the unfriendly north. But in Project Winter, among those who are fighting for their lives, there is also a traitor who dreams of ruining other people’s plans …

Project Winter Features

• The survivors are unfamiliar and cannot immediately figure out who the traitor is and who needs to be trusted. Attempts to find the truth are exciting from the very first seconds and do not bother even many hours later;
• Working in a team is an obligatory rule: without cooperation, you cannot hold out even a couple of virtual days, and it is completely impossible to find a traitor;
• Project Winter rules are retold in a couple of seconds, but you have to become a professional in practice: experimenting at every step and developing social skills;
• Heroes are allowed by the developers to dress up, accumulating local currency and moving up the career ladder.

Gameplay & Roles

It’s easy to tell about the gameplay of Project Winter briefly: in a special arena that can accommodate up to 8 survivors (including traitors), you need to survive, adjusting to the unpredictable icy world and in every possible way thinking over the following actions. From the start, you have to deal with resources, predators wandering around, and calling for reinforcements (and getting through to at least somewhere is another problem, because the traitor breaks the connection). The lion’s share of the gameplay for a survivor in Project Winter takes place in business and turmoil – too much needs to be solved, otherwise hunger and cold will destroy already shaky plans.

And, while the heroes are trying to escape, a traitor appears on the screen: one who is in no hurry to get out of the arena, but on the contrary wants to bury everyone else. The idea is not new – the same Among Us offers a similar adversarial scenario, but in a space setting. But the gameplay intersections do not spoil Project Winter at all, quite the opposite – they force you to immediately merge into the local environment and aim for victory.

Atmosphere, Resources and Progress

It is interesting to observe the snow-covered scenery even many hours later. It’s all to blame for the developers’ unique love for little things: rickety sheds, strange telephone booths, barns and grandfather’s gun frozen on a wooden wall. It is a pity to see the sights practically there is no time – after all, without warmth and supplies, the heroes cannot survive even a few minutes in an unpredictable environment.

An important feature of Project Winter is continuous development: the developers from Other Ocean Interactive, even after the release, are in no hurry to throw their own brainchild and are diligently releasing updates and additional content, including new equipment and even maps. An additional mode is also provided – Blackout (distributed as a purchased expansion for 175 rubles), which changes the rules and forces traitors to make social connections and lure new allies. Enthusiasts are not silent either: unofficial content for Project Winter is no longer a rarity, but a pattern: every now and then new clothes, equipment and even maps appear in the “Workshop”.
