VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action – we all became involuntary observers of the scene more than once, when a broken poor fellow complains to the bartender about the injustice of life, and he, in turn, consoles the unhappy with a kind word and alcohol.

The scene is mediocre, but revealing in its ordinariness: it serves as a reminder that we all have stories, even if they, most likely, will never be printed on the front page of newspapers. This idea is at the heart of Cyberpunk Bartender Action, an exotic cocktail of bartender simulator and visual novel.

The game takes place in the near future: power in the world is seized by unprincipled corporations, the streets are engulfed in the fire of the incessant gang war, and the minds of the inhabitants are shrouded in a dense curtain of bright neon lights and flickering wide-angle TV screens, full of pop idols’ performances, advertising the latest innovations in the field of care devices from reality and brainwashing agitation. Only one thing does not change: people and robots, according to the old habit, still go to bars and still share their stories with the person on the other side of the counter, whose role the player will have to take.

Contrary to its name, the game VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action will not offer much to the lover of thoughtless “action” (and in general it contains a minimum of gameplay as such), but lively and well-developed characters, brilliantly written dialogues on the topic of social and technical progress, a share of “dry” cynical humor, great graphic style and general gloomy attractive atmosphere will become a real boon for fans of the visual novel genre.

It is quite obvious that the brainchild of the Venezuelan studio Sukeban, like any cocktail “for an amateur”, will not become a universally recognized hit, but among connoisseurs the game has already acquired a cult status for its light, but rich taste, and for a heavy bitter aftertaste that leaves a sediment in the soul and thoughts for many days after passing.
