Cyberpunk 2077 – does the game justify its hype

When the game starts, the developers introduce us to the Night City metropolis. This is a mixture of the accessible world of GTA and the movie “Blade Runner”. Ambitious, but with an excess of sexism and xenophobia.

The first announcement of Cyberpunk 2077 took place in 2012. 8 years later before the game was ready to release. The developers of CD Projekt RED constantly pushed back the official release date, so the game saw the light of day on December 10, 2020.

The game managed to raise hype around itself after the E3-2019, when they showed the trailer, where Keanu Reeves became the main actor. This helped delight fans who were expecting the game and sell more copies at launch.

On the hype, the game has caught both rave reviews and controversy.

Cyberpunk 2077 review

The game introduces a character named Vee, and the passage is ahead of him. The protagonist is a cybernetic enhanced rogue. In an attempt to become famous on the inhospitable streets of Night City, he does dirty work like burglaries and killing gangs. One day, while trying to steal a new biochip from an influential corporation, the theft does not go according to plan. The protagonist implants a chip in his head and is unaware of the contents. There will be a digital phantom of the posthumous legend of Night City – Johnny Silverhand. The only problem with the biochip is that if you don’t remove it from your head, both will die.

From this moment begins the journey through Night City, where many versatile people live, street gangs. The city is full of a variety of corporations, bars and shops. The plot will move briskly, but this does not mean that it will be short. The storyline of the protagonist consists of missions, with the most diverse characters. Here there are evil owners of underground clubs, killers, vagabonds, anarchists. As you complete missions, you will build relationships with allies and enemies.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a variable choice of how to play the game. It is possible to go through the story only stealthily if you like this kind of gameplay. The choice of weapons in the game is rich, and it would be a pity to miss out on participating in a bright shootout. The game has one very notable mission “The Rhythm of the Night”. The player comes to the Japanese market and there begins a colorful parade in Night City. Holographic fish soar in the sky, bright colors around, classic Japanese lanterns. This creates the impression of a living observer of the holiday.

The developers didn’t come up with anything new. The project was created based on a board game in the cyberpunk genre. The authors were inspired by the ideas of the films “The Fifth Element”, “Robocop”, “Akira”, “Judge Dredd” and of course “Blade Runner”. The creators carefully worked out the plot to convey the meaning and view of the world.

Cyberpunk 2077 – does the game justify its hype

In Cyberpunk 2077, they relied on upgrading and self-configuring the character as they explore the world. Unfortunately, the menu itself is terribly confusing, comparing weapons with others or looking at buffs turns into a headache. There are other working triple-A games where equipment management is intuitive.

Night City is neon lights and a hell of a mix of what’s going on in the game. The developers have tried on the structure of the city and carried out a semblance of how modern megacities are built. Failed housing projects, dazzling advertisements for huge billboards. Here the essence of this city is revealed, under the tinsel and external seductive wrapper, the life of people in the slums passes. Where new fights, skirmishes begin and dirty deeds are concluded.

Developers in 2020 have been working overtime to bring the game to the public. Meticulously performed interactions with things like picking up items or searching enemies.

In addition to enthusiastic emotions, the awkwardness of some aspects is also felt. Developers see modern dystopia in a strange one-sided way. Holographic girls who dance, adult TV shows, androids, sex dolls are expected in the future world. Japanese elitism in the form of the Arasaka families who rebel against the American way of life is reminiscent of fiction from the 20th century.

The first people who wrote reviews noted a serious number of bugs and lags. Animation distortion, texture models, vehicle physics were a nightmare. The first day patch smoothed things out, but not much. For the PlayStation and Xbox, things are much sadder, there is a complete mess. The company rightly apologized for this embarrassment.

These signs indicate that the game was not prepared for release. Perhaps the developers made the right decision to launch the project for release, because due to constant transfers, the game was in danger of not being released. Don’t spoil the impression, wait for CD Projekt RED to fix holes and bugs.
