Description

The Council is an episodic game like no other. As you create a new take on a narrative adventure, your choice and character growth really does matter.

Make tough decisions, but also develop a range of skills to directly influence the development of the plot. With permanent, long-term consequences, there is no turning back. Immerse yourself in a story of intrigue and manipulation in the style of a classic murder mystery, surrounded by seductive characters, each with their own dark secrets. Trust no one to reveal terrible truths – no matter what the cost to your mind and body.

Features of The Council

The council begins in 1793 when players take on the role of Louis de Richet’s secret society after being invited by the mysterious Lord Mortimer to a private island off the coast of England. He was joined by a number of dignitaries, including Napoleon Bonaparte and President of the newly formed United States of America, George Washington. The bizarre nature of this private reception goes beyond just prestigious guests – Richet’s own mother went missing on the island recently, while each of the flamboyant actors seems to have their own secret plans.

In a new twist on the genre, The Council’s gameplay is all about manipulating and maneuvering during encounters with characters using a unique social influence system. During a confrontation, skills and limited resources can be used to gain the upper hand and achieve the desired result.

The Council players will be rewarded for knowing each character’s psychological vulnerabilities and immunities, and for preparing them during preliminary research and investigation. Failure of the meeting does not mean “game over” and no action can be canceled. The consequences are irreversible and can lead to permanent physical deformities or mental disabilities that help or hinder the player’s further adventure.

Richet’s many skills can be developed to suit your chosen approach to the adventure. Solve problems with diplomacy, immerse yourself in the occult to expand your historical and scientific knowledge, or play the sleuth and see what others can’t see. Your skills will be used not only in conversations with other guests. With 15 different skills to use and invest in, players are free to reveal The Council’s secrets however they see fit, with a wide variety of implications depending on their methods. The results will forever change the lives of Louis de Richet and those around him and shape history as we know it.
