Murdered: Soul Suspect Review

A colorful game created in the best traditions of an action adventure. The protagonist, detective Ronan O’Connor, conducts search activities in a small town called Salem. The name of the city is symbolic, because throughout the game, players are faced with inexplicable paranormal phenomena that are present in the life of every inhabitant, since the time of the Salem witches. The beginning of the game is not the happiest.

A detective in the process of investigating a series of murders committed by a maniac named “Bell-ringer” dies in a fight, falling out of a window. But surprisingly, he does not disappear, his spirit remains in the human world. Now the detective needs to finish his investigation to calm his soul.

During the game Murdered: Soul Suspect, the character will visit several locations: city streets, residential buildings, a beach, a church, a museum and other locations. Moreover, in each of the locations, in addition to the main task, there are additional missions that allow you to feel like a detective and solve murders that the police could not solve. In the course of the passage of the game, Ronan acquires abilities that very well help him to investigate the case. He can move into people and animals, inanimate objects, hear thoughts and voices, and also pass through walls, frighten passers-by and much more. Players can learn about the personality of the protagonist, his actions and the departed human life by letters scattered around the area, or by going into a certain energy field that contains the protagonist’s memories and is a short video.

In addition to the main memories of the protagonist of Murdered: Soul Suspect, there is an opportunity to learn about the history of the city and the Salem process over witches, which unfolded in the period from 1692-1693. However, the main character needs to be careful in his searches, as he is constantly being hunted by demons who want to absorb the essence of Ronan. In the fight against demons, you can use hidden portals that allow you to confuse him, but only for a while, as they feel the character’s energy. In addition to demons, the game contains “black holes” into which the character can be pulled, causing him damage.

Each investigation of additional cases is accompanied by a mini additional game Murdered: Soul Suspect (although the role of these games is incomprehensible, but very interesting), which soon becomes boring with its typicality. Most of all, the game amazes with its graphics, portrayal of the main characters and their surroundings. The atmosphere of darkness is accompanied by gray tones of the surrounding world and eerie musical accompaniment, throughout the game will not allow the player to feel bright positive emotions.

In conclusion, it is worth mentioning the shortcomings in the game Murdered: Soul Suspect, which in most cases spoil the whole experience. For example, there is no freedom of action in the game, the investigation map is limited in scope, and NPC phrases are boring. One of the drawbacks is that you cannot go back and look for letters and fragments of memories, moving further along the storyline, the main character will not find them anymore. The role of illuminated houses and doors, through which one cannot pass and somehow overcome, remains unclear, this greatly interferes with enjoying the atmosphere of the city.

Despite all its shortcomings, the game deserves the attention of gamers with its unique format and gripping storyline.
