Description

Do Not Feed the Monkeys – it’s a gray autumn outside, dull days are replaced by one another. There is no mood, there is no desire to go anywhere, there is no desire to do something.

I just want to take it, sit in front of the monitor screen and stick it in some turkey for a couple of three hours. Sounds familiar? If so, you can rejoice, because the recently released Do not feed the Monkeys is perfect for this purpose.

The developers of the acclaimed Beholder this time again released a game in which the player needs to watch someone. This time, you will try the role of a cyber spy.

Do Not Feed the Monkeys Review

The main character, throughout the game, is in his small one-room apartment, sitting in front of a computer monitor. Having joined the ranks of a secret organization, he gets the opportunity to spy on different people using hidden cameras. This will be the main component of the gameplay.

The company we work for calls itself a “club”. The images from the cameras are transmitted by the “cells” in which the “primates” are located. By the way, this whole metaphor with a zoo is a pretty clear message from the developers on the topic of modern society.

The club members have strict requirements, including the most important thing: do not feed the monkeys! That is, it is forbidden to in any way influence the fate of the observed and in no case should they be allowed to guess that they are being secretly watched.

If you break this rule, you will simply be kicked out of the club. If you follow the instructions, the organization will reward you with monetary rewards for answering simple questions about cells. For example, what is the name of the primate living here, or at what address, the cell is located, and the like.

In addition to observations, you will have to write down important information in a notebook, search the Internet, monitor hunger and fatigue indicators, buy new cameras (cells), earn extra money to provide all this, and so on.

The whole gameplay is divided into days. Every five days you need to increase your level in the secret club by buying new cameras. The game will end on the sixteenth day, unless of course you lose early.

By the way, there are many ways to play Do Not Feed the Monkeys, ranging from simple uninstallation of the surveillance program from your computer to starvation and police arrest.

In addition to all of the above, the gameplay is diluted with various little things. For example, every three days the landlady of the apartment will come for payment, the old postman will constantly make the mistake of the door, delivering the parcel, the sloppy neighbor will imposingly drop in to shoot trifles, and this is not the whole list.

All this, coupled with micromanagement and deadlines, makes the player spin like a squirrel in a wheel, at the same time watching several dialogues in the cages, opening the door for the pizza delivery man and answering the phone call. At first, this process seems intimidating and difficult, but towards the end of the game it is more annoying than annoying.

In general, in some places the game Do Not Feed the Monkeys seems a little raw. The monotony of the gameplay gets boring and turns into a routine. Some story cells lack alternate paths. In addition, the goal and motives of the protagonist are not entirely clear. In the same Beholder and Papers, Please! Everything was done for the sake of family and loved ones.

But, on the other hand, the game still turned out to be quite attractive. The opportunity to be such a voyeur arouses genuine interest. And the influence on the fate of their “wards” helps to feel almost like a god. In addition, the stylistic design for the 90s awakens nostalgia among older people.

In short, it’s definitely worth trying Do Not Feed the Monkeys to form your own opinion.
