READit VMS for Android

READit VMS is a free mobile application that reads the contents of variable message panels aloud while driving. With READit VMS you can know the message in advance when the driving circumstances are unfavorable (for example, fog, heavy traffic, night driving or panel failure). You can also use READit VMS if you have difficulty reading or if you prefer to listen to the messages in another language (Spanish, Valencian / Catalan or English).

How does it work?

READit VMS locates the user through the location services of the mobile phone (GPS) and reads aloud the text and the pictograms of the variable message panel when the driver approaches. In addition, READit VMS uses the mobile phone’s Internet connection to process the message. You can use READit VMS on your mobile phone, even while using another navigation application or with the screen off.

– It is a FREE application promoted and developed by entities of the Public Administration. **

– Do you drive with FOG, RAIN or SNOW? READit VMS gives you the content of the variable message panels when visibility conditions are unfavorable.

– Do you drive with TRAFFIC DENSE? READit VMS reads you the content of the variable message panels in a loud voice so that you can better manage your visual attention to the different elements of the traffic.

– Do you drive from NIGHT or WITH SUN FROM FRONT? READit VMS allows you to know the messages when the luminosity conditions are not optimal.

– DO YOU HAVE DIFFICULTIES TO READ? READit VMS anticipates you messages in a loud voice so you can know the information at a safe distance.

– Do you prefer ANOTHER LANGUAGE? READit VMS automatically translates the messages into Spanish, Valencian / Catalan or English. ***

* The current version of READit VMS only covers the variable message panels managed by the General Directorate of Traffic and by the Madrid City Council. As a result, READit VMS may not read panels in Catalonia and the Basque Country, in cities, on private highways or in tunnels.

** READit VMS does not require additional costs. But remember that your telephone operator may apply charges for the use of the Internet. Contact your operator to obtain more information.

** We use external services of automatic translation. The translation of the message may not always be accurate.

Who has developed READit VMS?

READit VMS has been developed by the ERI-Reading of the University of Valencia with funding from the Traffic Department (project SPIP2017-02132).
