Biome Hierarchy

As you explore the world of Valheim, you will encounter many enemies. Their difficulty level largely depends on the biome you are in. The difficulty level is as follows:

• Meadows;
• Deep Forest;
• Swamp;
• Mountains;
• Plains.

In addition, the entire structure of the Valheim world is built in such a way that things related to the boss living in a particular biome are necessary for the next biome. This means that, for example, if you go straight from the Black Forest to the plains, you will not have any equipment to help you effectively defend against local enemies.

Battle progress in Valheim

The battles take place in real time. Each opponent has a specific field of vision. If you find yourself in it, a yellow icon will appear above your opponent, indicating that he hears you. This means that the enemy is vigilant, but has not yet detected you. If you start sneaking now, chances are you won’t be found.

A red exclamation mark that appears above the enemy means that you have been detected, the enemy will move towards you. Adapt your tactics to the type of enemy. Each of them has its own weaknesses and is vulnerable to a specific type of attack. You can find out by looking at the color of the damage value.

They come in three options:

• Gray, indicates the opponent’s resistance to this type of attack;
• White, no damage taken modifiers;
• Yellow, character is vulnerable to a certain type of attack and takes more damage.

For example, gray dwarves, trolls, and wolves are susceptible to fire damage, while skeletons are vulnerable to blunt damage.

When you travel to a specific biome, you should be aware of the creatures that live there and have the necessary equipment. One of the most versatile weapons in the Valheim game, the bow. This allows you to deal ranged damage, and you can create several different types of arrows that apply different effects to enemies.

Some weapons also have special attacks that can do more damage and inflict additional statuses on enemies.

You should also remember that combat is not just about attacks. You also need to defend against enemy attacks. To do this, you must perform a dodge at the moment when you see that your opponent is preparing to attack. Alternatively, you can also wear a shield and use it to defend against attacks.

Use of buildings and surroundings

You can also use the environment during battles. Some enemies will not be able to overcome certain obstacles. Skeletons won’t jump on a fallen tree, you can use trees to protect yourself from enemy archers, and the wolf will get stuck under the stairs.

If you know that there is a strong enemy nearby, try to find places in Valheim that will give you an advantage. Alternatively, you can also create a workshop and small fortifications and lure the enemy to them. This will give you an edge and increase your chances of winning.
