Many fans of the Tomb Raider series of games have long waited for the final part of the saga, in which the formation of young Lara Croft begins. After the long-awaited release of the game, fans can finally fully appreciate the efforts of the developers. Did they manage to triumphantly complete the trilogy or not?

Recall that the “Tomb Raider” saga was relaunched back in 2013, dividing its fans into two different camps. Some fans were sad about the old days, when the curvy beauty Lara Croft was engaged in adventures in the style of Indiana Jones. They could not forgive the writers for a serious, sometimes even gloomy approach to this story. The other camp really liked this solution, which gives the heroine realism and down-to-earthness. However, absolutely everyone liked the fact that Lara found herself in Japan in the restart. This unusual location gave the game a unique atmosphere that made it a hit in 2013.

Two years later, a sequel to the reboot called “Rise of the Tomb Raider” was born. This game did not cause such a loud effect as its predecessor. Some fans have leveled their criticism at the writers who continue to bend their line. And someone liked the work of “Crystal Dinamics”, who created new adventures of Miss Croft in snowy Siberia. Despite the insignificant effect, the sequel sold quite successfully, thanks to a huge army of fans and its big name.

However, Square Enix listened to the opinions of disgruntled fans and decided to correct all the mistakes in the final part of the saga. First of all, they got rid of the main writer of the previous installments, Rihanna Pratchett. Then they changed the developer himself, having signed a contract with the famous “Eidos Montreal”. Fans greeted such changes with great apprehension. Will you be able to maintain the quality of the game? Triumph or complete failure?

The heroine of the game is still eager to find out all the questions regarding the death of her own father. In the previous parts, she had already learned a lot about this, but there were even more questions. Lara decides to go towards her goal in spite of everything, not looking back at the consequences of her obsession. As a result, her actions lead to a catastrophe, which now threatens not only her, but all of humanity.

New Shadow of the Tomb Raider writer Jill Murray has done a great job. The game no longer observes the strange dissonance in the behavior of the main character that was observed in the previous parts. Then Lara constantly turned from an insecure and frightened girl into a cold-blooded killer. In the third part, she no longer doubts for a second that she is right, acts without hesitation and delay.

However, she is ready to come to terms with her past, whatever it turns out to be in the end. In general, the Shadow of the Tomb Raider scenario turned out to be quite interesting and entertaining, which will not let the gamer get bored until the very end. But it cannot be called a masterpiece either, because many had high hopes for the finale. Perhaps, the main villain, Dr. Dominguez, who did not come out as a sufficiently convincing and expressive character, let us down. And the agents of the Trinity organization turned out to be not so dangerous and difficult rivals. Therefore, the plot deserves only a solid four, given the negative reactions from some fans.

Great gameplay

Fortunately, the gameplay in Shadow of the Tomb Raider came out very good and is its greatest strength. It will be easy for those who have played in the previous installments of this series to plunge into the new atmosphere. Players will experience a classic fusion of the four elements of “Tomb Raider”: acrobatics, shootouts, puzzles and world exploration. This perfect balance won’t keep any player bored! The game has a lot of gorgeous moments where Lara will have to fight wild jaguars, escape the chase and escape from the flood. Separate segments in the style of real horror films also deserve attention. The heroine will also visit the ruins of abandoned temples full of dark passages with mountains of corpses. Similar scenes were encountered in the hit game of 2013, but in the third part they were brought to maximum perfection.

Not deprived of the developers and fans who are scrupulous about the main case of this tomb raider. The game has many crypts and tombs full of treasures and improved equipment. At the same time, their complete is simply not at all necessary, but perfectionists will clearly enjoy this activity.

Graphics and world design

We can definitely say that in “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” with the graphics, things are very good. Many will love the stunning views of dense rainforest, abandoned chapels and ancient temples.

At the same time, a high degree of elaboration of every detail of this wonderful world can be noted. Some locations are literally asking for the desktop wallpaper! The player will often capture from the sight of majestic temples, pyramids and the jungle illuminated by the sun.

Localization of Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Unfortunately, the translation of the game was a complete failure. The original voice acting is of a very high quality, which was highly appreciated by many players. Camilla Luddington with her amazing contralto managed to give Lara the perfect voice.

But in translation, the heroine mumbles indistinctly under her breath, resorting to inappropriate intonations. I am disappointed with localizations and subtitles, which are very far from perfect. Some sentences are completely thrown out, forcing the player to think out the meaning of what is happening on the screen himself.

The game Shadow of the Tomb Raider definitely deserves attention, both for fans of the series and for third-party lovers of quality games. The final part of the trilogy about Lara Croft may not be able to repeat the former success of the first game, but it will definitely appeal to many players.
