Planet Nomads is a sci-fi survival simulator with an open world, an atmosphere of uncharted space and an experimental storyline with randomly generated challenges that affect the perception of the universe and the events that take place.

The gameplay is meditative: even many hours later, the developers from Craneballs do not oblige to rush anywhere – they are allowed to freely explore a bizarre world, collect resources, develop technologies and in every possible way adapt to the atmosphere of an unknown planet …

Planet Nomads Features

• Realistic physics: wheels of collected machines fall into the ground, objects fall apart, resources eventually become unusable due to improper operation;
• Crafting is varied – as you progress through Planet Nomads, you will have a chance to assemble a new engine for a virtual rover, deal with the water purification system and master the assembly of parts in a semi-automatic mode;
• Biomes change as exploration progresses and grows overgrown with expressive fauna – predators and herbivores will not be a problem in the path of history, but they will affect the course of some tests;
• The construction system is superficial, but the developers still allow assembling the new base in parts – it will take hundreds of resources and a well-thought-out assembly concept that eliminates problems with oxygen purification or the production of supplies.

Ambience & Gameplay

The plot of Planet Nomads is quite familiar to sci-fi sandboxes: the developers moved the events to the distant future (2065), when earthlings figured out the production of rare resources and, finally, got out of the solar system. But the expedition, directed to the neighboring constellations, faced unforeseen circumstances: the ship could not withstand the load and landed with a crash on an unknown planet. The crew died and only an unnamed daredevil has to find his way home.

Despite the creepy plot, the atmosphere in Planet Nomads is quite peaceful – unknown aliens do not wander behind the hero, and the doors of the compartments do not open with a crash and creak. Quite the opposite – around the sun-lit scenery, colorful trees and an unpretentious space routine, expressed in the collection of resources and crafting food …

Content and Updates

The release of Planet Nomads took place back in 2017, but the community and critics met a sandbox with a sci-fi world and quite curious mechanics for preparing plot tests with conflicting reviews: lack of content prevented the enjoyment of the gameplay, and the story was too much like many competitors in the genre. Performance problems were also observed: even in scenes with storytelling, FPS barely approached 30-40 even on flagship video cards.

And, although even Planet Nomads fans buried the sandbox after six months, the developers still tried to implement the conceived content, and at the same time achieve a slightly more positive reputation. So there were updates numbered 0.7 and 0.8, which introduced a character customization system, new mechanics for distributing energy and electricity, a planetary map, a special captain’s cabin and even a fantastic cattle breeding system.

Added and random generation of the landscape of some biomes – the universe of Planet Nomads has ceased to resemble a desert scorched by the sun and has become a territory of mountain ranges, forests and steppes. Although Planet Nomads is developing steadily, many problems have not disappeared, and technical problems have only increased. But maybe in another six months the sandbox will shine with new colors?
