Hades for Windows

All fans of 2D RPGs and ancient Greek mythology will definitely love Supergiant Games’ new project – Hades. This studio is known to many for its other games – Pyre, Transistor and Bastion. For the first time, the release of this game was heard at The Game Awards 2018.

In the game Hades, the character will have to fight with the god of death himself – Hades. So far, the first chapter of the game is available, and it is in English. But, nevertheless, true connoisseurs of Supergiant games are already immersed in the atmosphere of the new universe.

Characters in Hades

It is logical that if the game implies the world of myths and legends of Ancient Greece, then the main characters will be the gods. The main character will be Zagrei – not just anyone, but the son of Hades. The plot implies a confrontation. Zagreus does not particularly favor the kingdom of the dead, gloomy guards and suffering souls. For himself, he decides to go to Olympus, to other gods, to a world completely unlike the melancholy of the abode of the dead. But everything is not so simple, and the path to the bright goal of the protagonist is filled with all sorts of creatures that have arrived straight from the depths of hell. In addition, the road from the realm of the dead is riddled with traps, which also need to be remembered. So it won’t be easy for the player.

In addition to the main character and the gods, Orpheus is present in the game Hades – he serves as a musician in the realm of the dead, the head of a Gorgon and a skeleton, which has the fate of a whipping doll. Each of the characters can tell a story, which makes the passage even more fun.
Leveling up the main character

Zagreya’s improvement proceeds according to a very standard scheme. The pumping takes place in the room of the protagonist, and the player acquires the skills for the Darkness – the local “currency” that is located at the levels. But you cannot choose everything so simply and thoughtlessly, you need to think carefully before taking this or that improvement. Different types of attacks are suitable for different people, therefore, everyone will have their own pumping, and their priorities in spending Darkness.
And what needs to be pumped, the player learns from the first battles.

Fighting

What awaits the player during the battle? It is definitely worth saying that it will be difficult for those who are used to leisurely battles. This is not a strategy where the enemies will patiently wait for the next move and the selection of the right actions, otherwise it would not be a Supergiant. In Hades, the player constantly has to think one step ahead, dodge and dodge, just not to catch an unexpected blow. It should be pointed out that the entire combat system rests on the skills of Zagreus. The game has weapons that are quite standard, but the player can find something of his own among them. Not only in appearance, but also in a set of qualities. Each weapon, be it a sword or a spear, will have a different effect on the enemy.

But such battles would be completely uninteresting if not for their constant improvement. The gods of Olympus will from time to time send their help to Zagreus in the form of bonuses. The player is allowed to choose one “gift” from the three offered. The interesting thing is that the bonus itself will depend on which god. Everyone knows that Athena is the goddess of hunting and wisdom, which means that protection bonuses will be her gift.

Of course, the nature of the battle will change from the improvements. But the player should not think that the main character will receive invincibility from the constant gifts of the gods. Supergiant says no, and sends more and more powerful enemies to Zagreus so that life does not seem easy.

Design

Supergiant would not be Supergiant if it did not amaze with its game design. Of course, you can’t speak for everyone, and someone may not like the style of the game at all, but why buy the game in that case?

In Hades, the studio again tried its best, creating a unique image of the kingdom of Hades, and painted unusual, vivid images for a long-familiar character from the myths of Ancient Greece. This game shines with contrast, it has many colors combined with black. Detailing at the height – the 2D world is drawn perfectly, and the player will be presented with new landscapes of the Supergiant universes.
And what will happen after the release of the game – one can only guess what new locations the studio will surprise the player with.

There are not many games in ancient mythology, and we can definitely say that Hades definitely stands out among them. Supergiant continues to create its 2D masterpieces, and thousands of fans are eagerly awaiting the new game from the developers. A new history of Olympus, the depths of a dark kingdom, epic battles – the player, together with the main character, will have a difficult path.
