Description

Dalgona is an unpretentious graphic editor that semi-automatically turns digital and high-tech photographs into photographs obtained on old film cameras from the 80s and 90s. Highlights, noises, a changed and far from realistic color scheme, a vintage way of decorating the current date in the lower left corner – the developer KIM KYUNG MIN offers, at least for a moment, but to return to the past and feel the distant atmosphere of art that has changed so much over time.

Dalgona Features

  • Interface. The design of the Dalgona application is built around the standard elements of the genre, formed around the semi-automatic graphic editors that work with sources in the format of linear changes. First, the necessary photos are loaded, then filters are selected (from those offered), and then minor changes are made using the available effects. The finished work can be changed by re-completing the path from the starting point, or it can be saved in memory for transferring to friends or posting on social networks.
  • Content. All functionality is concentrated around 10 filters with flares, digital noise, captions and non-standard colors that spread across photographs in the form of special streaks. Despite the modest set, the photos after processing look quite in the spirit of the 80s and 90s and can easily decorate pages on Instagram or Facebook. But the trouble is that filters in Dalgona are not subject to at least some settings: you cannot change the intensity, add stickers or emoticons, or cut off unnecessary fragments in full. So you have to try on the changes, and then either use or abandon everything.
  • Updates. Updates are rare. Neither technical glitches, nor problems with pop-up ads, nor critical errors are fixed on time – you have to wait 2-3 months for at least some stability to be added to the very original filters.

Versions, access and criticism

The official release of Dalgona initially took place only on the iOS operating system: the developer KIM KYUNG MIN, on the wave of popularity that formed around the graphic editor Vooravo Cam, decided to hit the same goal and gather a familiar audience around the new service. Not everything went smoothly at the start (technical problems and crashes turned away part of the audience), but positive comments nevertheless led to the appearance of the Dalgona version on Android. In adapting to the new operating system, the developers have retained the already familiar essence – the same filters and effects, a similar price tag of 75 rubles, the same procedure for interacting with the interface. But a separate version of Dalgona, which can be downloaded to a computer (and even officially), has not appeared – you will have to use the Nox App Player emulator and experiment with filling using a mouse and keyboard.

Regarding the reputation of the Dalgona editor on iPhone and Android, not everything is smooth – the network is discussing a sharp lack of content (the set of filters is rarely updated), and a strange technical implementation, and even advertising appearing, regardless of the distribution method. Problems also arise with the exchange of works – there is no separate button “Share” with friends or relatives – you will have to upload information to the internal or external memory, and only after that – transfer it via convenient communication channels. Not critical, but there are fewer reasons to download Dalgona for Android or iOS.

And yet – you can’t download the full or at least trial version of Dalgona for Android or iOS for free to check the available options without prepayment – first, they say, money, and only after – filters and effects, and nothing else.

Functionality

The Dalgona editor does not offer flexible manual customization – the entire creative process is thought out in advance and is limited by drop-down and suggested menus. It is impossible to deviate from the algorithms, but it’s even better – you don’t have to understand the interface, and beginners will be able to figure out the details in a matter of minutes. At the same time, waiting for very serious results, capable of overtaking Lightroom or Photoshop in terms of entertainment, is pointless – everything revolves around a nostalgic atmosphere. Divorces, interference, noise – every element on the screen reminds of how life was imagined before the advent of powerful photographic equipment, and how difficult it was for art lovers to live with film instruments at hand. And for the sake of such memories, it is worth looking into the corner of creativity from KIM KYUNG MIN.
