DjVu Reader for Windows

DjVu Reader is a highly specialized software tool focused on playing files distributed in the DjVu format (lossy compression technology used to store books, magazines, manuscripts and other information in digital form).

In addition to viewing the documentation, the developers also offer to partially interact with the content – the selected fragments can be easily copied using the hotkeys CTRL + C and CTRL + V, and then they can be added to the clipboard and added to other programs. The only condition is that the fragments are copied as a separate image and are not translated into text.

DjVu Reader functionality

The track record of the instrument is rather modest. And the main reason for this is the desire of the developers to turn DjVuReader into a weapon of mass destruction. As a result, the assistant can be easily launched in portable mode even from external drives, takes up a minimum of free space and does not even try to “devour” computer resources (even by the standards of the 2000s, the tool was sparing both for RAM and processor power).

And DjVu Reader digests voluminous sources in no time – even 500 megabyte files open here in a split second and rarely become a problem. The following advantages should be noted separately:

View content in one-window and two-window modes. The idea may not be new, but observing the information spreading across the screen “in parallel” is much more convenient and clear. But, if you don’t want to experiment in this way yet, no one bothers to leave the standard virtual portrait orientation and focus on the data in the form that is most familiar to you.

Flexible adjustment of parameters related to brightness and contrast. DjVu Reader provides for choosing the optimal set of graphical indicators for the eyes. This option helps to increase the comfort level when reading from the monitor screen, as well as potentially simplify the perception of the content.

Content available on DjVu file pages can be copied using hotkeys or context menu. The copied information can be integrated into text editors or even on site pages in suitable text fields.

It is easy to interact with DjVu Reader even without using a mouse. The developers have long ago implemented navigation through the available menu using standard sets of actions. Tab, Alt, Ctrl, arrow keys for navigation – never before has it been so easy to understand digital documentation.

On release, DjVu Reader suffered from a strange drawback – the authors did not provide for the ability to work with information in one tool window, but in different tabs. Those who wanted to visually view several documents at once had to open a bunch of versions of DjVu Reader and already there, getting confused in the buttons and the resulting wilds, to understand the details. Work in such conditions slowed down a lot, since the shortcoming has long been fixed.
