How to remove white background and make transparent images in Paint 3D

Paint 3D is an underrated tool for Windows 10 that uses the standard MS Paint application and adds tons of modern features. One of the most useful tools is background removal.

The application is a “modernized” version of Microsoft Paint with many useful features. It is probably not powerful enough for professional image processing. However, if you want to quickly remove the white background from an image and make something transparent for use on a blog or create a meme, it’s pretty easy to do.

How to remove white background from an image in Paint 3D

  1. Open Paint 3D by typing Paint 3D from the Start menu.
  2. Open the image you want to use by choosing Open, then Browse Files from the Welcome screen.
  3. Use the File Browser to find the correct file you want to edit. Alternatively, you can right-click the file and select Edit with Paint 3D.
  4. Select the Magic Select tool.
  5. Crop the image to remove unwanted areas.
  6. You can zoom in with the scroll wheel of your mouse. You can also remove or add additional parts of the image using the tools on the right sidebar.
  7. When you click Done, the image cutout appears as a separate object that you can move.
  8. Next, remove the background. Go to Canvas and select the Show Canvas radio button to hide it. The background will turn gray.
  9. Now save the photo as a transparent image. Go to the menu in the upper left corner and click “Save”. Choose PNG as the image type. Also select the transparency toggle from the box.
  10. If you want to remove extra space around the image, select Adjust Angle & Border at the top. Now you can choose the aspect ratio of the image, as well as enlarge and reposition the image to align it as you like.
  11. Click OK to return to the save screen, then click Save.

How to turn a cutout into a sticker

You can use the new image as a sticker. Just select Make Sticker after doing the initial cut.

Stickers remain on the list as long as you leave the app open, but you can start new projects with the sticker in action. You can also save it as a separate file for reuse.

Select the Stamp icon to the left of the box to draw the sticker over the canvas background.

If you want to try it on a different image, select the menu in the upper right corner and open or run a new file. The sticker will remain in the custom list.
