In Stonehearth you discover a living world full of warmth, heroism and mystery. Help a small group of settlers build a home on a forgotten land. Starting with procedurally generated terrain with dynamic AI encounters, Stonehearth combines community management and combat with endless building possibilities. It can be modified at all levels, from your city to the people and creatures that inhabit the world, and it will come with tools and documentation for you to add your own customizations to the game and share with your friends.

The heart of Stonehearth is city building and management. When you are just starting out, you will need to combine tasks such as obtaining stable food, building a shelter, and protecting your young settlement from raiders and other threats.

Once you gain a foothold in this world, you have to write the fate of your people. You have the opportunity to choose your own path in this game. Do you want to build a great empire of conquerors? A vibrant trading city? Spiritual monastery? We really want you to feel like this is your settlement, and we give you the tools to make it look and work exactly the way you want it.

All settlers in your Stonehearth cities have jobs. The work is similar to a class in an RPG. Each job has a specific role, such as transporting materials, building, crafting items, and fighting. As your mentees work at work, they gain experience and levels. Some jobs, if they meet certain requirements, can be upgraded to completely new jobs with new opportunities.

Usually, to assign someone to a new job, you also need to create a tool for them. A Freemason can create blocks, statues and tools from stone, but for this he will need a hammer and chisel made by a carpenter. Our goal is for the quest tree to be both very wide and very deep, so that there are many different things in the game, but also a lot of depths to explore if you want to focus on any one area. As a Stonehearth modder, you will be able to do almost everything that we as developers can do: introduce new items and monsters, write new adventure scenarios, influence AI, whatever. This goes back to that initial pen-and-paper role-playing experience, where “play” is a collaboration between a basic set of rules and stories created by the master of the game.
