Description

Need for Speed Heat – You appear as a rude beginner driver and must win races and work your way up the hierarchy of street racers. Along the way, you will meet the kind-hearted brother Anu and Lucas, a corrupt police chief, and a couple of other road robbers who specialize in various disciplines of car driving.

In other words, the fairy tale is a pretty typical Fast and Furious sweater where the only reason you root for street drivers is because the cops are even worse if possible. The story should be that it’s not too long or too short – I even started to like some of the characters at the end – but still not much to write at home.

Then the game universe of Need for Speed Heat is much more interesting. It all takes place in the heart of Palm City’s candid Miami-inspired city. The game starts a race entirely with a large and colorful world – which means you can hike from the high quarters of the city center, to the palm trees on the beach, to the observatory in the mountains, and to the quarry on the other side of the map.

Need for Speed Heat Review

As you reach new levels and delve deeper into the narrative, you unlock more and more challenging races, so you need to upgrade your car and buy new equipment to keep up with the competition. It has everything you need for those who like to ride the races and improve their car.

Day and night

So far, however, it sounds like every other car game that has come out in the last ten years, and that’s simply because there isn’t much new to NFS Heat. In fact, there is only one thing that is truly unique and that is the relationship of the game with day and night. While other free world games for the most part let you spend the day in the background as you do it, it is instead a central part of Need for Speed Heat. The game has two parts: during the day you can take part in law-abiding street races, and in the evening the long branch of the law engages in illegal races that cause a furor around Palm City.

So during the day, you make money (“bank”) that you can use to buy auto parts and new vehicles, while evening activities make you more notorious in the environment (“spokesperson”). The result is a thrilling poise where you have to constantly figure out what you really need and actually need to think a little about tactics before throwing yourself in between.

If the night seemed a little more difficult for you, then you can move on to the next day to make money and buy a new chassis. Want to unlock new cars and more daytime races? Wait until nightfall, raise the police and use the “rope” to reach new levels.

Nightlife in Need for Speed Heat

The nights are by far the best part of the game, where the heat levels rise steadily over time. The more damage you do, the more ardent cops you get, but at the same time, the amount of experience points you earn for what you do increases.

In these episodes, the game comes down to how risky you like to live – you can participate in night races and torture your father as much as you want, but if you are taken away, then the lion’s share of what you earned that night will be confiscated in the same a piece. Losing thousands of experience points is incredibly sad.

The balance between risk and reward generally works very well, and while the police can get a little fatigued at times, it must be said that artificial intelligence is one of the best I’ve seen in recent car games.

Output

Need for Speed Heat has a lot of interesting features: it has a stunning visual style, where neon, evening darkness and rains create a beautiful picture; the dynamics between law abiding day races and Spinnville police races at night are very exciting; and the universe is big and filled with a lot of content for this driving pleasure.

However, I still feel like something is missing, and after about 15 hours of history has ended, there is little to tempt me to return to Palm City. The game just doesn’t have a little extra to separate it from the smoke, and it falls into the shadows of other, better car games.

Likewise, I agree that this is the best Need for Speed game in years, and if we’re really lucky, Ghost Games will use what they’ve learned here to make the game even better next time. So far, Need for Speed Heat is more than good, especially if you missed out on the real street car game.
