Description

DARK SOULS: REMASTERED – in the dark world of Lordran, in which there is not even a drop of hope, and all people eventually turn into maddened hollows, quiet as in a cemetery. And only screams, curses and sounds of battle can be heard from afar.

Another newcomer decided to plunge into dark fantasy, and overcomes every twist of this treacherous world. The developers of the original Dark Souls, From Software, have seen something like this recently, and therefore decided to please all fans with a “corrected” version, tightening textures, improving lighting and optimization, and at the same time releasing “Dark Souls” on modern consoles. Did the developers manage not to spoil anything with their corrected version – read below.

DARK SOULS REMASTERED Review

To begin with, let’s make a reservation – From Software did not make a remaster of Dark Souls, but only made sure that everything was done as needed. The main work was done by outsourcers from QLOC, who once made the infamous port of “Batman: Arkham Knight” on the PC from the Rocksteady studio. For which the eye immediately clings, as soon as you start the game – much deeper detailing of the armor, the world.

It is immediately clear that such a game was once conceived by From Software, but the power of the previous generation simply did not allow it. The game works in this form is also great. Stable 60 frames per second on PC and 30 on consoles, faster downloads and more stable operation of the game itself will impress you right away. But as always, there is a fly in the ointment in a barrel of honey, and in our case, a barrel of honey is mixed in equal proportion with this very tar.

Over the years since the release of Dark Souls: Remastered, you can see how the number of concurrent users has dropped significantly. If at the start there was no push from the friendly “white” signs of help, now the game is empty and only sometimes you can see a lonely player trying to help at least someone in this difficult world. The opposite is true with enemy invasions.

They naturally interfere with the game, because 80% of enemy phantoms are cheaters who either kill you instantly, then delete your save or reset all progress on the character, preventing you from advancing further. And the old QLOC bugs have not been fixed, and users are finding more and more loopholes. So, for example, from the starting location you can get to the middle of the game by simply skipping the entire first part of the game, but this is not so easy to do, so this will not hurt an ordinary gamer to enjoy the game.

Most likely, From Software’s attempt to give people a “fixed” version was correct, but the execution really leaves much to be desired. This is not to say that Dark Souls: Remastered is impossible to play. Doing this just sometimes becomes unpleasant, seeing that nothing absolutely new, except for one checkpoint was added to the game, and the graphic part of the original has long been “pulled up” by users, as well as performance. But if this is the first acquaintance with a series of games from a gamer, then this will be a real revelation and in this case it is advised to play only in the Remastered version.
