Catherine Classic is an action-puzzle platformer with a Hollywood blockbuster atmosphere and survival mechanics developed by Atlus Persona Team and centered around the life of 32-year-old Vincent in a romance crisis.

The hero is confused in life and is not able to decide on the next step: is it time to call Catherine to marry or is it necessary to break the connection with love and have an affair with a stranger from the bar? The dilemma torments Vincent and he faces nightmares almost every night. It is not surprising that life soon turns into an impassable test …

Features of Catherine Classic

• Experimental storytelling with animated cutscenes, Catherine Classic cut scenes, notes, notes and dialogue – follow the story from multiple angles;
• The gameplay is unpredictable – from time to time developers are forced to move blocks in a strange sanctuary, and then fight opponents that appear on the way.

Classic version and storytelling

The release of Catherine took place back in 2011 on older generation consoles (including the Nintendo Switch) and only 9 years later made it to Windows computers. The release of the puzzle took place almost in its original form, but with some innovations: we are talking about the ability to choose a new voice acting (Japanese), select a resolution in 4K, and at the same time unlock the FPS counter. There will be no problems with the keyboard and mouse – the developers allow you to remap the keys, choose the appropriate format for interacting with the puzzle.

The gameplay parts have also been partially redesigned: “Drama”, The Lost Sheep “and” Nightmare “, as before, affect the way of storytelling – somewhere you have to follow Vincent’s story and choose the following actions, at some point – to fight nightmares, and also – to start relationships with interlocutors in the bar. Each of the parts greatly changes the story, and therefore the developers hint at the need to follow a pre-selected strategy and not experiment again …

Gameplay, Events and Modes

The core of the competitive mechanic is the puzzle tower that appears in Vincent’s nightmares every night. The hero is not able to escape from dreams, and therefore is forced to hide from his pursuers every day (such sins that are always waiting on the way and spur on the manifested indecision), climbing blocks and hiding from traps and obstacles. The implemented system of nightmares is curious: 90% of the time you have to interact with the scenery and build a way up – to the door leading to freedom. But the trouble is – half of the blocks are equipped with traps, and the second is disguised …

In addition to the classic storytelling, divided into chapters and retelling the events revolving around Vincent, the Catherine Classic offers a Tower with increased challenges (designed to compete for leaderboard records) and a split-screen feature for competitions with friends in Colosseum format. And, although the gameplay does not change due to the choice of the mode, it will become more fun to cope with the tasks set – if only because of the opportunity to spoil the lives of competitors!
