Google is a unique search and entertainment platform that crosses together the functionality of a whole collection of tools from Google: a map service and a weather center are hidden inside, voice and text queries, a news digest and automatic translation of selected articles, and more – protection of confidential data and the selection of interesting materials depending on the geographical location.
The listed set of possibilities resembles a lightning-fast medicine that saves from information insufficiency. You no longer have to look for sources that describe important news in cinema and technology, there will be a chance to forget about the weather forecast or finding the right route. Automated and technically perfected, Google’s platform can guess any query and make life easier.
Where is Google available?
A separate Google application, which replaces both the search engine, the news feed, and the map, is being developed by the corporation of the same name exclusively for iOS and Android mobile platforms. Versions for computer operating systems – Microsoft Windows, Linux, MacOS – are not provided and, most likely, will no longer appear on the network.
That is why the developers suggest using the Google Chrome browser, which, if not completely, will partially replace the application and help you receive the same information set, but in partial “doses” scattered across different services.
Well, if you want to slightly increase the proportions, then the authors suggest, firstly, to register (a personal Google profile collects query statistics, corrects spelling, helps to transfer logins and passwords between different platforms), and, secondly, to download a number of browser extensions , which will help you access the translator, map or meteorological center not through the address bar, but in one click – from the quick access panel.
An alternative way to use the proposed toolkit (if the idea of a browser is not to your liking) is to install the Nox App Player emulator: there Google works at maximum power and helps to deal with pressing issues at the speed of light.
Test run
After downloading Google on iOS and Android, the service proceeds to a significant initial setup, which consists of a number of mandatory and not very useful actions and conditions.
Activate push notifications
The parameter is controversial – some will be delighted with the morning news (the results of sports confrontations of their favorite team, offered films and TV shows, discounts on flights) or weather reports, while others will begin to annoy Google’s endless call to look at the screen of a smartphone or tablet in the hope of finding useful information.
Here the choice depends on each individual. But, as practice suggests, it’s worth living at least a couple of weeks with push notifications – life is noticeably simplified!
Selection of recommendations
What makes the Google app better than the rest? Finds those news, requests and ideas that every member of the community would like. And the main reason for this is the continuous and daily processing of statistics related to search queries, visited pages or selected entertainment. Like travel? Google will tell you which tickets to buy, where to look for prices, and which hotels located on the other side of the world will give you a lot of unforgettable experiences.
Has sport been a part of life for a long time? Google is able to send the results of sports events several times a day, and also talk about the changes that have taken place in the national teams, warn about transfer transitions and changed leaders in the rating table.
Recommendations on technology, computer entertainment, and even cooking work in the same way. And most importantly – you do not need to understand anything. The main thing is to activate the “Recommendations” setting, and the rest of the responsibilities will fall on the shoulders of Google!
Interaction with search
The idea is classic – text queries can and should be diversified. Moreover, in different ways – as an option: no one bothers to activate the scoring of the results (if the request is direct and the search engine was able to immediately find a suitable and monosyllabic answer) or, for example, the command “OK, Google”.
In the latter case, the command works on Android even without going to the service, but on iOS, you will have to open the application first, and after that, access the search line with the prepared phrase.
Small nuances
At Google, the authors took care of the little things. So, for example, there was a chance to preview videos, translate parts of text in a semi-automatic mode, or show popular queries even before the moment when only a few letters appeared in the search string.
Well, if you want to take care of privacy, then there will be no problems either – Google provides for clearing the history after exiting the application (alas, “Recommendations” will stop working as originally intended) or – identity verification using fingerprint scanners or faces (Face ID technology “fully” works exclusively on iOS).
By the way, it is not necessary to deal with the above parameters during a “trial” run: the developers provide for lightning-fast skipping of settings for the sake of a quick transition to the search bar. But it’s worth doing this only in cases where “recommendations” are not needed, push notifications are tired, and tips and advice seem like a waste of time. However, in such conditions, it is not at all clear why Google loaded.
Optimization and innovations
The community has long appreciated the contribution of developers to the development and optimization of the Google service: owners of smartphones and tablets with iOS and Android appreciate the “integrity” of functions, manufacturability and clarity of interfaces, the breadth and depth of the proposed settings.
The disadvantages include only advertising, which, for unknown reasons, appears on the screen even more often than Chinese fakes (and Google is an international corporation!). But it’s too early to get upset because of such problems – the developers are already striving to screw in a number of innovations and open up new perspectives for dedicated participants:
- Recommendations will become wider and clearer, and will also take on a thematic look. Sports will no longer be mixed with cars, and cooking will no longer be mixed with proper nutrition or exhausting diets.
- On Android, Google’s powers will become more curious – through the command “Ok Google” there will be a chance to turn on the flashlight, set the alarm, or activate Wi-Fi.
- G-Board’s custom keyboard is not new, but on iOS it will be able to compose search queries directly on the keyboard (at the top of the interface), and fold letters – not with touches, but thanks to the “drawing” effect.
- Well, where without support for widgets? Both Android and iOS will have a chance to display special thematic selections on the screen and follow the news and recommendations without even opening the service. Far from new, but an interesting idea.
