What is Google Search Console used for?

Google Search Console is one of the few and probably best known of all the tools Google provides to webmasters and administrators so they can use hard data to evaluate the performance of their websites and online stores.

Due to its wide capabilities, for most specialists it is the main source of data on site performance and user journeys.

Position knowledge and optimization tips

The two main functions of GSC are to provide information about the position of the page in the search engine and to provide recommendations for optimization.

Since the results presented to users by the Google search engine are personalized, it is not possible to objectively check the position of a page simply by entering the relevant question. GSC is based on data from own bots, i.e. shows the average position, which does not mean that it will be exactly the same for all users. And since the results in the instrument itself are not personalized, only its readings can be a source of information about real changes. We can say that Search Console is also a basic tool in monitoring website positioning services.

How does the tool help with optimization?

A complete list of factors influencing the position is not published for obvious reasons. On the other hand, GSC may suggest changes to the site so that the site, in simple terms, gets along better with the search engine. Therefore, this will be information about problems with indexing, information about which part of the pages was indexed and which was not, and for what reasons certain subpages were not included in the index.

Information for advanced users

Google Search Console is a tool that gives access to fairly advanced data, such as internal links (also external, but to a lesser extent). This allows you to plan the user’s journey through the website and possibly also change the structure of the website to be more strategically beneficial. We emphasize that GSC is not enough for planning a marketing campaign, but checking how many subpages and in what hierarchy Google sees is the first step in technical preparation.

Why and when to use GSC?

What is Google Search Console used for?

GSC is used less frequently than Google Analytics on a daily basis, but it also shows very different data. Google Search Console is, in a sense, an excellent service that allows you to control the most basic issues related to the operation of a website and its presence on Google. How and when can it be used?

Regular control of GSC allows you to avoid errors associated with indexing, so it’s worth visiting the panel after updating the CMS, changing the link structure on the site or after major code modifications, because all of them carry the risk of worsening interaction with the search engine and such information will appear in GSC as soon as possible quicker.

GSC is a tool with which you can check the queries for which our site is displayed in the Google search engine. How many people clicked on a given query, what was the average CTR and site position.

Impressions, clicks, items, and CTR can be viewed by query, subpage, date, country, or device.

In addition, you can analyze the website in various Google search engines, i.e. search networks, graphics, news or videos.

If you notice any problems with the site in your daily work, then you should turn to the Google Search Console. Firstly, the built-in tools will notify you of a malware infection, secondly, they may indicate problems with indexing, and thirdly, they may inform you about automatically or manually applied filters and actions to be taken to detect them. In a sense, GSC is the tool by which Google will inform the user about problems with their website – this is the main way to identify problems in many emergencies if the problem is related to visibility on Google.
