World of Goo is an atmospheric and highly inventive puzzle game that tells about the life of slime droplets wandering in zero gravity, moving in a chaotic manner and forced to fight the world around.

And World of Goo is not about trying to seize power or defeat everyone who gets in the way. Quite the opposite – the drops dream of reaching a special pipe leading to a better world. But what, and is the game worth the candle, only time will tell …

World of Goo Features

• The rules are elementary: it is enough to “pick up” the drops and attach them to the environment or brothers. In less than three minutes, all the subtleties will become known, and a goal will appear ahead – to become a professional trainer of virtual characters;
• The difficulty grows evenly: at the start, it is enough to assemble a simple structure of 10 elements, but closer to the end you have to remember a hundred little things and carefully maneuver between traps and obstacles;
• The plot in World of Goo is provided: the story revolves around a whole universe, where very strange and even mystical events take place;
• Objectives in World of Goo do not change: 90% of the time you have to build, erect and combine, and only occasionally experiment.

Gameplay and atmosphere

The core of the gameplay in World of Goo is the transformation of scattered drops of mucus into experimental constructions that can reach a special pipe suspended at the beginning or at the end of the level. The goals will not change closer to the final, but the ways to achieve new results change with enviable regularity. So you have to invent suspension bridges, build towers, combine blocks and rely on the power of third-party structures presented at the level.

Each time, it is necessary to carefully approach the solution of the available tasks of World of Goo: the slightest mistake and the heroes will not withstand the load and everything around will immediately fall apart, and therefore you have to start the passage again. And while the Game Over intro is not fatal, but rather instructive, getting used to having to start from scratch is much more difficult than it seems at first glance. After all, the previous plan led only to a loss of time, and whether new ideas are capable of bringing everything to an end will become known only at the moment when the next struggle for life begins …

Difficulty, Progress and Updates

Tests in World of Goo become more confusing in 40-50 minutes: you have to interact with the environment more often, spend less actions (a special limit appears), and sometimes react with lightning speed to blocks rotating around or traps that appear. The available inventory is also changing: if at first it is enough to move only gray droplets of mucus, then a kind of balloons will appear, lifting the structure up, and other improvised elements that make you look differently at already familiar things. Traps will appear, as well as tests for “strength”, testing ingenuity, cunning and non-standard thinking. How about turning slime into a virtual parody of the Eiffel Tower?

Updates for World of Goo have ceased to appear: the developers from 2D BOY have long ago fixed technical problems (rarely, but sometimes the accumulated progress is reset for unknown reasons), and diversified the base version of the storyline with additional tests. And yet it is a pity to part with the familiar universe – the competitive mechanics are too curious and the plot twists and turns are unpredictable …
